About Me
Born in Leominster, MA, Erin Kelley is a figure painter taught at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell. Working with oil paint as her main medium of choice, color and light is something dominating her interest throughout all fo the paintings she has created. There is a nod back to artists such as Jean Francois Millet, Gustave Courbet, Theodore Gericault, and many other artists of a similar style within her work for ideas of lighting and composition.
Working mostly large scale, getting up close to capture a large amount of detail is seen across all of her work, using photos of her own creation to arrange the scenes and stories. She views her paintings as an escape from the stressors of life, creating people that are in their happy place. Hoping to bring a sense of wonder to what is going on within someone else's mind, the painted figures typically pay no attention to the viewer watching them.
